Internet Explorer Pop-Up Blocker & the Bicycle Map

Please be aware that the Internet Explorer Pop-Up Blocker will try to block pop-ups created within the "Create a Bike Route" function of this Bicycle Map application. There are several ways to deal with pop-up blocking, each allowing users to enable certain defined websites to use pop-ups.

Unblock before you need to:

The easiest method is to:

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Go to the Tool menu, select Pop-up Blocker, and then Pop-up Blocker Settings.
  3. In the window that opens, type www.wcbikemap.org in the Address of Web site to allow: box.

Unblock as you need to:

Another approach is to unblock individual pages as they are blocked. In the Bicycle Map application the feature that is affected by pop-ups is the "Create a Bike Route" function. (The "Select Features" function also utilizes a pop-up window but shouldn't be affected.)

The following is an example of how to un-block the pop-up window in the Bicycle Map, but the steps should be the same for all web based applications.

Follow this sequence of steps to allow Bicycle Map pop-ups:

  1. When you use the 'Create a Bike Route' feature and click on the map, an Information Bar dialog box appears with the question “Did you notice the Information Bar?”. A long, colored Information Bar also appears at top (or bottom) of the browser window. Click OK.
  2. The Information Bar says, "Pop-up blocked. To see this pop-up or additional options click here …" Click on the bar and an option menu appears with the options to “Temporarily Allow Pop-ups”, “Always Allow Pop-ups from This Site”, and “Settings.”
  3. Select Always Allow Pop-ups from This Site. A confirmation appears asking to allow pop-ups from www.wcbikemap.org. Click Yes

When you follow these steps, you will not be bothered with pop-up blocking again for the 'Create a Bike Route' function- it's a one-time procedure. This will always allow you to use the feature without having to turn your pop-up blocker on and off each time.
